Continuing the SAT Debate

The Wall Street Journal reported recently on the flat SAT scores of the class of 2008, coming on the heels of several years of SAT score declines. Nationwide, the average critical reading score was 502, average math was 515, and average writing was 494. The College Board contends that the flat score results are positive, indicating that more students are taking the SAT. However, the score gap between Black or Hispanic test takers and White or Asian test takers persisted, refueling accusations of biases in the test and reigniting the larger debate about the validity and predictive value of college entrance exams, as well as state and national standardized tests as mandated by No Child Left Behind.

The Financial Aid EasyPlanner offers families the ability to:
- Calculate your overall college costs,
- Organize or develop a savings plan,
- Determine your estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC),
- Explore various loan and scholarship opportunities,
- Understand the “how to” process of filling out financial aid forms, and
- Compare aid awards to help decide which college is most affordable.
